A major UK water utilities company needed a reliable way to issue secure, fully encoded workplace ID cards to field engineers and contractors working across the country. With teams routinely operating both on-site and off-site, the business required cards that supported both visual identity checks in the field and electronic verification at its facilities.
Challenge
The utilities provider relied on a large, mobile workforce spread across multiple regions. They needed ID cards that could be produced quickly, often individually and delivered directly to the intended user to avoid delays in field operations. Importantly, each card had to be encoded with specific data to integrate with the company’s on-site electronic access and verification systems, while also presenting clear visual identification when engineers worked off-site.
Solution
CCSI implemented a flexible, on-demand ID card printing and encoding service. Operating Monday to Friday, we produced cards daily, often in single quantities and dispatched them within 24 hours in most cases.
Each card was printed in full colour for clear visual identification and encoded with role-specific and user-specific data, enabling two levels of verification:
- Visual checks when engineers and contractors were working off-site or interacting with the public.
- Electronic checks when visiting any of the utility provider’s sites, seamlessly integrating with existing access control systems.
Cards were shipped directly to the individual recipients, allowing them to begin work immediately without administrative delays.
